Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to a local laundromat on Tuesday morning following reports of the stolen phone.
According to police, there was just one suspect who had the opportunity to commit the crime. He reportedly left the business and returned shortly thereafter, without the phone.
Police said that when interviewed by Ramapo police officers, it was determined that the Hillcrest resident had stolen the phone while his victim was busy with her laundry. He proceeded to leave the store and sell the phone to a landscaper for $20, police said.
The phone still has not been tracked down.
The suspect was charged with larceny and has since been released on bail. He is due back in Ramapo Court next month.
