Juan Monge-Jacome, 43, was arrested after Suffern police received a report around 2:30 a.m. Sunday of a violent domestic dispute taking place in an apartment on Lafayette Avenue which involved a possible stabbing, Osborn said.

Sgt. Dave Tarantino and Officers Mike Careswell and Ryan Ortiz responded within a minute and located two victims in the rear of the apartment along with two young children, he said.

One of the victims, Jacome's wife, suffered head injuries and the second victim, a 38-year-old Suffern woman, and friend of the first victim, sustained several puncture wounds on her back from being stabbed, Osborn added.

Officers then entered the apartment and located Monge-Jacome, and took him into custody.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Monge-Jacome had arrived at his residence and immediately began to attack his wife and her friend, knocking the wife to the ground and kicking her in front of their two young children. He then picked up a knife, put it over his head in a threatening manner towards his wife and children and swung it at them, Osborn said.

At that same moment, the wife’s friend in an attempt to protect the children jumped in front of them and she was stabbed in the back. All of the victims and the children then fled out of the apartment and met arriving officers.

“This incident could have had a much more tragic ending if the friend of the intended victims did not take the action she took when the suspect was swinging the knife," Osborn said.

He was charged with was charged with second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, two counts endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree assault, four counts of menacing, two counts of harassment, and criminal possession of a weapon, Osborn said.

Monge-Jacome is being held at the Rockland County Jail on $75,000 bail with a court date scheduled for Tuesday in Suffern Justice Court.
