ROCKLAND COUNTY N.Y. - Route 17 was temporarily closed on Wednesday morning as first responders dealt with a car fire in Sloatsburg.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a patrol officer from the Ramapo Police Department came across a vehicle on fire, which quickly became fully engulfed.

Police said that the officer was able to get the driver and passengers safely out of the vehicle before any injuries occurred. The Ramapo Fire Department responded to the scene swiftly and the flames were quickly knocked down and extinguished.

Route 17 was temporarily closed down in all directions but has since reopened. Officials said the cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
