RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo High School Key Club members and students recently had a chance to take out their frustrations while having fun during the club's Car Smash fundraiser to help raise funds for breast cancer research.
During the event, Key Club members, led by math teacher and Key Club advisor Donnette Wilson-McLaughlin, painted a car pink, and wrote slogans on it. Then students paid a dollar for two swings on the car with a hammer.
More than 120 students came out to participate, most wearing pink, to help the club raise more than $500.
The Key Club is a student-led program whose goal is to teach leadership through service to others. Key Clubs are sponsored by local Kiwanis Clubs. the Ramapo High School key club is sponsored by the Spring Valley Kiwanis Club.
The Ramapo Police School Resource Officer was instrumental in obtaining the car for the event that was donated by Buck Wild Towing.
All the money raised will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Donations will continue to be accepted through the month of October in celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness.
