Animal lovers young and old will want to throw on some flip flops and take part in the Paul Doctor Memorial 1K Flip Flop Fun Run Sunday, June 11 to benefit the Hi Tor Animal Shelter in Pomona.

The shelter is attempting to break the Guinness Book of World Record for people completing a 1K in flip flops as a way to raise funds and to honor Doctor, a beloved teacher at Cottage Lane Elementary who died unexpectedly in 2016.

The current world record is 845 people so the shelter is looking for a huge crowd to come out and take part in the event at Tappan Zee High School.

The Fun Run registration starts at 9 a.m., Fun Run starts at 11 a.m.

The registration fee is $15 for students, $20 for adults, $50 for a family of four or $160 for a team of 10. Online Registration is available here.

To help celebrate the day, a “family friendly” after party starts immediately after the run at Bailey’s Smokehouse with lots of tricky tray raffles, a live band, an outdoor tent and food/drink specials all day.

Doctor loved animals, especially his cherished cats, so his wife Patricia Cardenas knew Paul would want to do something “World Record” big to help out Hi Tor, Rockland’s only animal shelter.
