Sen. David Carlucci (D – Rockland/Westchester) was joined by members of the team Wednesday to announce the purchase of the boats for the student-athletes to use.

The Suffern Crew team is represented by both boys and girls who aspire to row in college.

Suffern has become a hot spot for rowers over the past five years. The team has won every event at the Rockland County Championship from 2013-2015. This past May, Suffern High School sent two boats to Nationals for the first time in school history.

“I am proud to stand here with such incredible student athletes” said Carlucci. “As crew grows in popularity, I am elated to say that Suffern High School Crew has become a leader in this sport, not only in New York State, but in the entire country.

"Purchasing these news boats is absolutely necessary to help these athletes compete at the highest level across New York and the United States. I look forward to seeing these young men and women progress in the upcoming season and I will be watching them every step of the way.”

"Nearly one year ago, I approached Sen. Carlucci about helping our crew team grow,” said Suffern Crew Booster Club President David Shaddick. “The Senator was very receptive to our proposal to buy new boats to help our program grow in strength."
