Freezing rain and ice is expected is expected north of I-84 overnight into Saturday morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service that includes Orange, Putnam and Dutchess counties.

Northern Westchester and Rockland will see rain with freezing rain possible before 11 a.m., then a slight chance of freezing rain and sleet between 11am and noon.

The advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. until noon Saturday for Orange and Putnam and from 3 a.m. until 7 p.m. for Dutchess.

The ice will result in very slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads and bridges. Total ice accumulations of a light glaze are expected.

In addition, a few tenths of an inch of sleet could fall during this time frame in Putnam and Orange. The combination of a few hundredths of an inch of ice and the sleet will make travel difficult late tonight and Saturday morning, especially on untreated and elevated surfaces.

In Dutchess, snow accumulations of up to 1 inch and ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch are expected, with localized amounts of up to three-tenths of an inch possible across portions of the southern Taconics, southern Berkshires, and northern Litchfield Hills.

The cold front that moved through the area, bring heavy rain Friday, will result in much lower temperatures Saturday, with a high in the 20s.

Sunday will be sunny but continued cold with a high in the low 20s.
