$13M Upgrade For Rockland Lake Pool, Boat House

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- It might not seem like swimming or boating weather, but before long thousands of residents will be heading to Rockland Lake State Park to do just that.

The pool, kiddie swim area, boathouse and office at Rockland Lake State Park are all receiving facelifts.

That's why park officials are busy sprucing up the park with a $7.3 million swimming pool replacement and a $5.9 million remodeling job of the park's office and boating bathhouse, according to lohud.com.

Park manager Christian Nielsen told lohud.com that all were built in the 1960s and are badly in need of upgrades.

Unfortunately, the new pool won't open until the 2018 summer season, Nielsen told lohud.com

A big addition to the pool is a new "spray ground" that will replace the kiddie pool and include a pair of water slides jetting from a three-story tower and spray jets sprouting from a variety of animal-like figures, added lohud.com.

The south pool will remain open until the new pool opens, then it will be ripped out and turned into fields, said lohud.com.

In addition to the pool and kiddie spray area, the park office and boating house are also receiving a facelift.

To pay for the upgrades, Nielsen told lohud.com that he would expect a slight increase in pool fees, although none have been announced.
