ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- An Airmont woman who was high on drugs is facing multiple charges after hitting a bicyclist and then leaving the area, according to the Ramapo Police.
Elana Umansky, 59, was arrested after police responded to the area of Cherry Lane and Heather Drive within the Village of Airmont on Sunday, July 2 around 9:30 a.m., for a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle, police said.
While responding to the location, officers were advised that the person had fled the scene. At the same time, a fire chief from the Tallman Fire Department, who was in the area, heard the call and spotted the vehicle. He then directed Ramapo officers to her location.
Umansky was arrested and charged with assault, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and DWI/Drugs, police said.
The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
