Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to a Spring Valley home at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, where a homeowner reported that a vehicle parked in a driveway had been struck by another driver.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the owner of the parked car, who reported that he heard the accident and had come outside to see what transpired. Police said that the man stated that the driver that struck his car was still in contact with the car when he came outside and was attempting to push through it, rather than backing away. The driver then fled the scene.

Police said that while investigating the accident, officers were nearly struck by a vehicle that veered off the road, over a curb and into a rock wall. The officers were then instructed that the car that struck the rock wall was the same that had crashed into his parked car.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old whose name has not been disclosed by police, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for evaluation of a minor head wound.

Following treatment, the teenager was processed and released on bail. He is due back in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court later this year.

Ramapo Police declined to identify the 19-year-old suspect.
