Police Provide Details Of Suffern Armed Standoff Arrest

SUFFERN, N.Y. -- A potentially suicidal 39-year-old male who was armed with an AK-47 in his Park Ave. apartment on Monday night is facing multiple weapons charges, according to officials.

Police received the report of the armed man at approximately 5:30 p.m. When communications with the suspect broke down, the Rockland County SWAT team entered the apartment and took the man into custody, police said. 

Officials found a .22 caliber handgun and an AK-47 on the premises along with a small amount of marijuana, police said. 

The unidentified suspect was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana. 

The suspect was remanded to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond, police said.
