RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police have arrested a 38-year-old Hillcrest man on an assault charge, authorities said.
The arrest came about when officers responded to a report of a man arguing with a woman at a residence in the Hillcrest section of town early Sunday, police report.
Following an investigation at the scene, the suspect was charged with assault in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to officials.
The defendant was held for arraignment in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court, police report.
He was later released after posting bail, according to officials.
Ramapo police officers responded to six motor vehicle accidents in the town on Sunday.
Sites of the accidents included: Ewing Avenue in Hillcrest; West Maple Avenue in Monsey; East Hickory Street in Hillcrest; Old Nyack Turnpike in South Spring Valley; Route 59 in Monsey; and Caroll Court in Montebello.
Ramapo police rendered assistance in 102 calls for service Sunday, including 21 alarm activations, a fire and six medical emergencies.
A total of four arrests were made, including the assault charge and three harassment charges resulting from domestic violence incidents, police report.
