RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A woman was arrested early Saturday morning after Ramapo police found her sleeping behind the wheel of a running car at the intersection of North Airmont and Montebello roads, according to authorities.
The woman, whose name was not released, could not be roused, which caused town police officers to force their way inside, authorities said.
The woman, who faces a count of driving while intoxicated, was taken to the Rockland County jail pending an appearance in Montebello Village Court later in March.
In other parts of the town, Ramapo police officers investigated a one-car crash at North Airmont Road and Kings Gate Road in Montebello, another on Route 45 in Ramapo and another that involved injuries at Chestnut Ridge Road in Chestnut Ridge, police said.
Five arrests were made in connection with various driving while intoxicated offenses, criminal contempt charges, unlawful possession of marijuana and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, according to police. In total, the department responded to 99 calls for service, including seven medical emergencies and 15 alarm activations.
