Ramapo Police Dish Out 30 Tickets At Commercial Vehicle Checkpoint

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Officers from the Ramapo Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit conducted a commercial vehicle checkpoint in conjunction with the New York State Police on Wednesday, authorities said.

A total of 10 vehicles were inspected, with six being removed from service due to safety violations, according to officials.

The vehicles were also checked to see if they were within the proper weight limit, police report.

The checkpoint resulted in a total of 30 tickets issued, according to officials.

Ramapo police officers investigated eight motor vehicle accidents Wednesday.

Sites of the accidents included two apiece in Airmont and Monsey, and one each in New Hempstead, Hillcrest, Hillburn and Pomona.

Ramapo police responded to 127 calls for service Wednesday, including 13 medical emergencies, 15 alarm activations and seven fire calls.

A total of three arrests were made, according to officials.

Charges included trespass, criminal possession of a controlled substance and a warrant of arrest, police report.
