Ramapo Police Officer Frees Infant Accidentally Locked In Vehicle

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A Ramapo police officer freed an infant accidentally locked inside a motor vehicle Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident occurred when the officer stopped by the Spook Rock Town Pool to conduct a routine patrol of the area, according to officials.

While at the location, the officer was advised by a parent that her child had been accidentally locked inside her vehicle, police report.

The officer was able to unlock the vehicle, and the child was safely reunited with his mother, according to officials.

Ramapo police officers investigated 14 motor vehicle accidents Monday.

Sites of the accidents included five in Hillcrest; four in Monsey; two in New Hempstead resulting in injury; two in Hillburn; and one Montebello.

Ramapo police rendered assistance in 144 calls for service Monday, including 11 alarm activations, 17 medical emergencies and seven fires.

An arrest was made on a criminal mischief charge.
