If passed, village residents can submit a request in writing to be added to the "do not knock" registry, which will be maintained by the village clerk. Peddlers, solicitors, or canvassers will receive a copy of the list and will be prohibited from approaching addresses in the registry.

Similar action was taken in Orangetown and more recently considered in Airmont. In addition, a hearing will be held locally by the New York Department of State in July on the matter

Other sections of the code regarding peddlers and solicitors will remain unchanged.

State Sen. David Carlucci and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee announced the state hearing earlier this month. Both are proponents of establishing regulations in regards to soliciting and cavassing, having received numerous calls from residents throughout the county complaining of solicitors.

The hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, located at 100 Ladentown Road.
