SPRING VALLEY, N. Y. -- New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia said she saw some progress during a recent visit to several East Ramapo schools, but more needs to be done, according to lohud.com.
Elia said specifically she was impressed with the learning and engagement at the high school, yet she noticed terrible conditions with the school's roof. Elia visited three schools in the troubled Rockland school district, lohud.com said.
Elia met later with the lohud.com editorial board to talk about some of the specific problems at East Ramapo. The state board of education has been involved with monitoring schools and conditions in the public school system.
